As a test of sorts, I'm making this preliminary post from my Asus Transformer 300 tablet, as I will when abroad. You'll see that my bag (singular) is pretty full, but thankfully I was able to fit everything on my packing list in there. Here's hoping I didn't forget anything critically important! I suppose all I really need is my passport and some money, so that's a check-check right there. Off to a solid start so far!
I can already see the plane making its ascent, up toward the sun and beyond the scattered white clouds. The city becomes smaller and smaller, and soon you begin to doze off, dreaming...of castles emerging from forests, Mediterranean-style buildings crowding the coast of a crescent-shaped harbor full of yachts and dinghies, ancient and broken theatres and stadiums and places of worship that seem to roar with excitement when you close your eyes...and then you open yours, and you're there.

Day 0: Pre-departure
It's almost time. In a few more hours, I must say adieu to SD and make my way up to SF by way of LA (for the fifth annual Outside Lands music festival in Golden Gate Park). Which means I must have everything packed for Europe now. I'm nearly done, just a few lingering items left to toss into my growing backpack before I can zip it shut til early Monday morning, when Joanie and I will depart from LAX to Glasgow to begin the adventure of a lifetime.

I hope you'll continue to follow me on my journey and enjoy living vicariously through Joanie and I. We'll be thinking of our family and friends while we travel, and would love to see your comments on the posts that will ensue. Enjoy!

Exciting! Which backpack are you using?
ReplyDeleteIt's the Grand Tour 85 from REI. I'm definitely gonna get a workout, carrying this thing! But it's pretty comfortable and offers terrific support, so I don't think my back has anything to worry about.
DeleteHave a great and fun trip Nathan!! Please say hi to Marissa for me.
ReplyDeleteWow, Fav, you are off to a great start.
