I can already see the plane making its ascent, up toward the sun and beyond the scattered white clouds. The city becomes smaller and smaller, and soon you begin to doze off, dreaming...of castles emerging from forests, Mediterranean-style buildings crowding the coast of a crescent-shaped harbor full of yachts and dinghies, ancient and broken theatres and stadiums and places of worship that seem to roar with excitement when you close your eyes...and then you open yours, and you're there.

Jet-setters Anonymous
3...2...1...
We have liftoff! As we approach our first European city on this monumental journey, thinking about all the possibilities of what we're about to experience, and what we left behind (like Joanie's Eurail Pass), I can't help but be lost for words. I'm not sure it's sunk in yet, that when the doors to our plane open, we'll be gazing out across the lush green landscape of the Scottish Highlands. It's truly surreal.
Whether you're a family member, a friend, or an older version of myself rereading these pages, I'm sure you'll find all sorts of entertaining things throughout these posts. And you never know when some unbelievable story will be told...
Less than four hours til we touch down and go through customs, and change forever. New everything, from the outside in.
After a wild weekend in SF for Outside Lands, and less than 10 hours of sleep, both Joanie and I are running on pure adrenaline. But we want to hit the ground running when we land (before 8am local time) so perhaps it'd be wise to sleep a little now. The beer we had at that Irish pub in EWR will help put us to sleep...

Dooder. Save some room for whiskey and haggis when in the highlands. Word.
