Good got better on our first full day in Prague. We slept in late to recover from the night before but managed to see a lot once we got started. We ate a fantastic Thai lunch around the corner from our hostel and then set out to sightsee, starting with the architecturally interesting Dancing House.
From there, we walked toward the Old Town Square, and decided to stop into Bethlehem Chapel to see what it had to offer. Turns out it was nothing special, but that's been part of the fun of exploring each new city.
We continued into the main square and saw the Powder Tower (the old gates into the city center), the magnificent Astronomical Clock and tower, Týn Church, and tons of other interesting sites including the old Jewish Quarter and cemetery.
We were able to get a particularly good view of the square and the surrounding city from the top of the clock tower. Also captured some pretty fantastic photos of the city around sunset that I may need to frame when I get home.
Later on, we stumbled upon ads for a concert that would be performed in St Nicolas, an old church in the town square. We spontaneously decided to snag tickets, then grabbed some delicious local fare from the food stands in the square before taking our seats in the small church. We were treated to tunes written by Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart, Dvořák, and Miller, all performed by the Prague String Orchestra. As you might expect, it was a pretty cool hour of music.
After the show, we headed back to our hostel, where a couple bands were slated to perform on stage in the restaurant-bar area. We made it back in time for the second band, which apparently was the only one of the two worth seeing. They really were quite good; very Bohemian sounding, which suited the scene, seeing that we were in the Czech Republic and all (aka Bohemia).
After the show, I ran into the guys from London and we decided to head out to see what fun we could find on a Saturday night in the city. We met up with a couple girls they had met earlier that day on the metro, and it turns out they were the same two girls I had met two days prior on a walking tour in Berlin! We were all pretty floored by the whole thing. From that point on we proceeded to have the best night in Prague, and the latest night other than the all-nighter I pulled in Berlin two days before.
Like that night, the evening ended with the best lobby party yet, before we all started admitting to exhaustion and headed to our rooms one by one (around 7:15am for me). Though there probably aren't enough pictures from the night to do it justice, I think the highlights that were captured will show how much fun we all had...
...and that, my friends, is how you earn yourself a lobby party.
